The numbers are in! Last week the Ontario SPCA branches across Ontario saw a total of 108 adoptions, including beautiful Bruce, who after a tough go at it, has found his forever home in Sudbury. A total of 68 cats, 30 dogs, 4 guinea pigs, 5 rabbits and 1 hamster were all adopted. We are so happy for all the animals and thank everyone involved in giving them a second chance.

I just saw this posting and am wondering why the number for adoptions seems so low for ALL of Ontario!?? I volunteer in Florida for the winter, at an animal shelter/adoption and their 1 organization adopted out 12-1300 for this year. If this is accurate, maybe there can be other ways to get these poor animals “stories” out there, so they have more of a chance to be adopted. Or one of the criteria is matching right animal with right person/home/environment…….so that same animal does not end up back in the “system”……..”God forbid!!”

Hi Lisa,
Thank you for your comment. These numbers are just within the Ontario SPCA branches (13 shelters) and does not include our affiliates and the hundreds of other rescue organizations. In 2012, our shelters adopted out over 5000 animals throughout the year. Within our shelters, we try to match up adopters with their ideal companion with Meet Your Match®, an ASPCA program. The Meet Your Match® program is the only method in existence today that evaluates an animal’s behavior and interests and matches them to an adopter’s preferences so that you take home a pet you can really click with. You can check out details at http://www.meetyourmatch.ontariospca.ca.

What is Bruce’s story? He looks a bit like our Mr. Brown who bolted from us last summet. Sooo many calls regarding him…but none of them panned out.

Hi Mike,
I don’t know the exact details regarding Bruce’s story. He came to the Ontario SPCA Sudbury Branch last fall I believe and it took some time to adopt him out as he needed a home without children or small animals. Please feel free to contact the Sudbury Branch at 705.566.9582 or email sudbury@ospca.on.ca and they can provide more details.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
